Counting the Ways By Edward Albee Direction by Ron Giddings In a series of blackout sketches or snapshots, ‘He’ and ‘She’ probe into the nature of their love for one another. Aware that time has wrought changes in their relationship, the two spar and thrust at each other in exchanges and reminiscences which are sometimes lighthearted, sometimes poignant, sometimes almost brutal. In the end, a mosaic of experience is constructed, illuminating the nature of human love and pointing up the gathering indifference which can beset those who have been perhaps too long and too closely aligned in the sharing of years. One couple’s story is told by 10 different actors (5 men and 5 women), who alternate between scenes, creating some great theatrical moments, and bringing an added weight to this poignant tale of love in question. All roles are 18+. Rehearsals begin Sunday, May 17th, 2009 Performances are May 29-31, 2009. Altar Boyz Book by Kevin Del Aguila Music and Lyrics by Gary Adler & Michael Patrick Walker Direction by Jamie Erin Miller Altar Boyz is a foot-stomping, rafter-raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham. With their tight harmonies and spectacular choreography, the Altar Boyz will delight you as they perform their signature hits such as "Rhythm In Me," "The Calling," and "I Believe." Over the course of their concert, the Boyz question their loyalty to each other and ask whether or not faith is really holding them together." Matthew - “The Leader”. This charismatic “resident hunk” has no trouble leading this boy band through their “Raise the Praise” Tour. The actor playing Matthew needs to have a great deal of stamina, as most of his lines are directly after some of the major dance numbers. Luke - “The Bad Boy”. This white homeboy’s elevator may not go all the way to the top, but he sure knows how to “bust a move” on the dance floor. The actor playing Luke should have some rapping and break-dancing skills. Juan - “The Latin Lover”. A true “ladies man” with a heart of gold. His Latin spice adds just the right flavor that this group needs. The actor playing Juan needs to be able to speak and sing with a Spanish accent. Abraham - “The Gefilte Fish Out of Water”. Not your typical Altar Boy, however, he truly is a key member to the group. The actor playing Abraham should be able to beat-box. The role of Mark has been cast. All other roles are available. Rehearsals begin April 26th, 2009. Performances run July 10-19, 2009. Mr. Marmalade By Noah Haidle Direction by Ron Giddings Lucy is a four-year-old girl with a very active imagination. Unfortunately, her imaginary friend Mr. Marmalade doesn't have much time for her. Not to mention, he beats up his personal assistant, has a cocaine addiction, and a penchant for pornography. Larry, her only real friend, is the youngest suicide attempt in the history of New Jersey. Mr. Marmalade is a savage black comedy about what it takes to grow up in these difficult times. You’d be amazed how much children pick up when you think they aren’t listening… Seeking the following roles: Mr. Marmalade (30-40) Attractive, seemingly innocent, darker menacing edge beneath the surface, needs to be an actor who can command a scene simply by being on stage. Must demand respect and attention. Bradley (35-50) Mr. Marmalade’s romantic personal assistant. Can sing like an angel. Is physically abused by Mr. Marmalade, so should appear weaker in ways. George/Man/Cactus (30-40) Emily’s boyfriend; a jock; wears a letter jacket/A one-night stand/Talking plant imaginary friend. Rehearsals begin August 9th, 2009. Performances run September 11-20, 2009. Tracers By John DiFusco, Vincent Caristi, Richard Chaves, Eric E. Emerson, Rick Gallavan, Merlin Marston, Harry Stephens, and Sheldon Lettich Direction by Edd Miller Tracers details the real-life and fictionalized adventures and tragedies of the Vietnam conflict. A composite or collage of interrelated scenes, the play follows the lives of a group of "grunts" as they move from basic training, on to combat in Vietnam, and finally to the shattering realization that their lives will be forever affected by the horrors that they have witnessed—and been a part of. Seven physically fit young men, 18-30 (one or more African-American), willing to be challenged. The roles are the men of one particular squad and their drill sergeant, before, during, and after the conflict. They are physically and emotionally demanding and will require a bonded ensemble. To that end, we are planning a “boot camp” type retreat and similar team- building activities before production begins. This show is not for the timid…there is strong language fitting the stronger statement. The roles of Baby San and Scooter have been cast. Five other roles are open. Rehearsals begin October 5th, 2009. Performances run November 13-22, 2009. |
